What is a Health Coach?
I am board certified in health coaching, which means that I work with you in helping to improve not only your diet and nutrition, but your overall health as well. I believe that we can only get to a place of optimum health and wellness when we look at ourselves from a holistic perspective, so together we explore the connection between what you eat, and how your lifestyle influences food choices on a daily basis. I encourage my clients to consider how career, relationship, stress, and physical activity relate to overall health, wellness and diet. You are supported in reaching your individual goals and attaining a balanced lifestyle.
You are unique
I recognize the bio-individuality of each person. Your experiences of the body, emotions, intellect, and spirit have all come together to create the person you are today. I recognize and honour your individuality and believe that you will receive the greatest benefit from a personalized approach to health.
What you can expect
Expect to experience a very common-sense, step-by-step and supportive approach to improving your health. You will receive many opportunities for support and invitations to classes and other special events. Follow the recommendations and put forth your best effort and you will be sure to reach your goals!
The primary way in which we work together is through a six-month health coaching program. Why six months? Because it takes time to create lasting change in your life.
In each of our 12 sessions, you get a whole hour (90 minutes for a couple or family) to focus on you. In this time, we discover what it is that is working well in your life, what is working but could use improvement, and what is no longer working and create strategies for replacing this with something that will bring you great joy and health. You have the opportunity to make small and manageable changes that will help you to achieve the life of your dreams.
In each session we work on your personalized wellness goals. These goals might include:
- Feeling healthy, energized, and fit
- Losing or gaining weight
- Overcoming sugar, salt or carb cravings
- Improving body image
- Understanding the impacts and benefits of different foods on your body and making healthier food choices
- Nourishing and healing your body, mind and spirit after diagnosis of critical illness or injury as a part of or after your treatment
- Choosing a healthier lifestyle as you begin a family or becoming healthier together as a family
In addition to working on your personal goals, I share information with you about topics I feel are critical to know in order to achieve and sustain long-term health.
You are the key to your success
The most important factor in how we work together is what happens in between sessions. You have a chance to go home and experiment with the recommendations I make and the new things you’ve learned. This gives you a chance to integrate small and manageable changes into your life slowly, maximizing the chances that you will be successful in achieving your goals. I am there to support you in between sessions too, through email support and the option to book check-in sessions for further assistance should you be feeling really stuck.
